If you factor the number of planetary bodies in the universe that we are able to see… then multiply that by the unknown factor of X, X being what we cant see, you have to deduce that we are not even a grain of sand in the great picture. As a result, the odds there are life out there is far grater than the odds of not.

The universe is so huge that it seems impossible to me that any particular chain of coincidence (such as the one that made life happen on our planet) should occur only once. I think it's very implausible that we'll find it, at least any time soon, but I believe that it's there, in all the varieties (and then some) that we experience it.
